Superstar singer Post Malone kicked off his Australian tour in Brisbane last night – and took an infamous Aussie tradition to the next level during the show.

The Courier Mail reports that Post, 28, did a “shoey” no less than seven times during his concert, telling the crowd he was aiming for some sort of record as he repeatedly stopped the show to skol beer from a shoe.

Post took to the stage clutching a red cup with his drink of choice – an “ice cold brewski” – but drunk from a shoe instead. The Courier Mail reports that by the time he got to his seventh shoey, well into the show, he’d brought an audience member named Dennis on stage to join him.

Dennis’ reaction to drinking beer out of a shoe was captured on the venue’s big screens – and suggested he didn’t have the same insatiable thirst for shoe-booze as Post.

Footage from his show in Auckland last weekend shows Post Malone doing the same trick, to cheers from the crowd.

The “shoey” has become a love-it-or-hate-it tradition among visiting international touring acts in recent years, with big names like Harry Styles and Lizzo attempting the gross custom onstage while egged on by local fans.

Not everyone is so game, though: At her 2019 show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, country queen Kacey Musgraves flat-out refused an audience demand for her to do a shoey.

“That’s disgusting. I’m not f**king drinking out of your shoe,” she told the crowd.

Post Malone’s Australian If Y’all Weren’t Here, I’d Be Crying tour continues with shows at Sydney’s Domain next Wednesday November 29, and Melbourne’s Showgrounds the day after.

The shows comes just nine months after his last Australian visit, supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their Aussie stadium tour.
