Snoop Dogg’s unexpected decision to perform at a Donald Trump event has earned the ire of his fanbase, with embarrassing videos of the “white bread crowd” going viral online.

The beloved US rapper, 53, hit the stage at the pre-inauguration Crypto Ball in Washington, D.C, at the weekend, much to the surprise of his supporters given his previous anti-Trump stance.

His about-face was made more awkward by the audience’s behaviour at the gala.

Multiple clips of Snoop’s set surfaced on X, which appeared to show a completely disengaged and “bored” crowd barely breaking a sweat as the hip-hop artist served his number 1 2004 hit Drop It Like It’s Hot from behind the DJ deck, as well as renditions of Don’t Stop Believin’ and Three Little Birds (Don’t Worry About a Thing).

“Many words come to mind but Unity is not one of them,” one user wrote of the vibe in the room.

“That’s qwhite a crowd,” another quipped.

“Doesn’t look like they care to hear about his songs either while he standing up their using the ‘n’ word [in his song lyrics] to a group who despises him and his ancestors,” a third wrote.

“That white bread crowd ain’t even paying attention to him,” added another.

Meanwhile, many declared they were “disappointed” with Snoop’s appearance at the event, just shy of Mr Trump’s official inauguration on Monday, given his at times brutal commentary about the president elect.

He took his disliking for Mr Trump very public throughout 2017. In the music video for his song Lavender, Snoop could be seen pointing a prop gun at a Mr Trump lookalike dressed as a clown.

Mr Trump condemned Snoop for the imagery at the time, taking to X, then Twitter, writing, “Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!”

Elsewhere, the rapper also hit out at artists who were planning to sing at Mr Trump’s inauguration in a clip posted on his social media account in 2017, labelling potential performers as “jigaboo a** n****s.”

In 2020, Snoop, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, had endorsed Joe Biden for the presidency. Prior to that, he advocated for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Suffice to say, Snoop’s radical political U-turn saw him targeted online following his performance.

“Wow, I guess it’s cool to be on the right now,” one user wrote.

“I would have lost serious money betting against this ever happening. I am curious as to why he chose to,” another said.

“You know these folks will just follow the money,” a third said.

“How embarrassing,” added another.

“What a sell out,” a fourth said.

The Inaugural Crypto Ball was described as a “celebratory setting intended to honor [sic] America’s first ‘crypto president,’ President elect Donald J. Trump, his incoming cabinet and administration.”

Meanwhile, US country music star Carrie Underwood announced she would be singing at Mr Trump’s inauguration, having previously kept her political views under wraps.

“I love our country and am honoured to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she said in a statement last week.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
