Thank goodness for model mums Megan Gale and Fiona Falkiner being real on social media.
In a world obsessed with unobtainable perfection and celebrities filling their Instagram feeds with airbrushed glamour, the Aussie women have shown the reality of motherhood.
Gale, 45, and former AFL player partner Shaun Hampson are parents to two young children, son, River, and daughter, Rosie.
“We’ve had one visitor at our house during lockdown,” Melbourne-based Gale wrote in a candid social media post.
“A very unwelcome one by the name of ‘Gastro’. He hit one of us (Rosie) but the rest of us are fine thank god! A measure of a mother’s love. on the dunny floor collecting stool samples for pathology. Oh the glamour of parenthood eh?!?!”
Gale, who is also an actor with film credits including The Water Diviner and Mad Max: Fury Road, is known for her raw and matter-of-fact approach to social media.
She is however fiercely private when it comes to her children, rarely posting images of their faces.
Falkiner, who rose to fame as a contestant and later host of The Biggest Loser, gave birth to son, Hunter, earlier this year.
On Instagram this week, she shared an image of herself with a breast pump.
“Concentrating on the let down,” she captioned the image. “Feels like half my day and night is spent like this. #mumlife.”
When contacted, Falkiner said: “I want to show the reality of being a mum.
“There is so much out there that makes it look so shiny, and don’t get me wrong, it is an amazing and really beautiful experience, but there can be really tough times too.
“My first three weeks, Hunter wasn’t latching properly because he had a tongue tie so he was feeding every hour pretty much,” she said.
