Emma Georgiadis spent a decade working as a teacher but couldn’t shake the belief that she was destined for a radio career.
On Monday morning, the Adelaide presenter known as ‘Emma G’ will realise a lifelong dream when she joins Bernie Vince on SAFM’s new breakfast show.
“When you have this desire, this something inside of you that won’t be quiet and won’t stop niggling at you, you have to pursue that,” said Georgiadis, who’s been based in Sydney for the last two years.
“Radio was always my first passion. I grew up obsessed with SAFM. I’m a big radio nerd so breakfast radio in your hometown – that’s the dream. I’m really happy to be back.”
Georgiadis, 37, started on-air in Adelaide at Fresh FM and moved to a part-time role at the old hit107 (now SAFM), all while working as a primary school teacher at St Ignatius College and Loreto College.
“The media landscape in Adelaide, there’s not many opportunities so I always had the back-up plan of teaching in mind,” said Georgiadis, who studied media and law at uni.
“Then I took my long service leave after ten years and thought I’m going to give this radio thing a proper crack.”
Soon after, Georgiadis secured a full-time position at Triple M, working as an announcer and anchor on the station’s Rush Hour drivetime show with Vince, Andrew Jarman and Greg Blewett.
“It was a no-brainer for me. I had a beautiful teaching job at a lovely school but my dream was always to work in radio so I’m glad I took the leap because look at where it’s led to right now,” she said.
Adelaide-born and bred, Georgiadis moved to Sydney in 2022 to further her radio career as co-host of The Pulse, the hit network’s national night time show.
The new role came not long after she met her Adelaide boyfriend, Edward Kleut, who works in banking.
“We have been doing long-distance this whole time... it’s been challenging. So I’m very happy to be back reunited with him. It’s all worked out so well,” Georgiadis said.
Georgiadis and Vince take over from Mark Soderstrom and Rebecca Morse, who finished up on-air about two weeks ago.
“There’s going to be plenty of laughs and banter. Bernie is a legend,” she said.
