ABC Radio Adelaide is filling the void left by top-rating breakfast host Ali Clarke with young blood – Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz.

Both are in their 30s and already known to the local audience of Aunty.

Clarke, who resigned from the ABC late last year, is rumoured to be joining Mix 102.3’s new breakfast team following Mark “Soda” Soderstrom’s departure.

An official announcement regarding the team’s line-up is yet to be made, but The Advertiser can reveal it will start on-air on January 24.

That is instead of January 17, when other stations are resuming their regular programs after the summer break.

Mix’s delay of one week is to allow the new team and its producers to spend time bonding and planning.

Clarke finished last year at the ABC on a high: In the final radio ratings for 2021, Clarke was number one in the crucial brekkie timeslot – meaning Lee and Beilharz have big shoes to fill.

Lee, who has previously worked for Sky News and Channel 7, is regarded as one of the ABC’s best political journalists.

She has presented ABC TV news and been a regular guest on the radio brekky program’s Spin Cycle segment.

SA-born Beilharz, who is the husband of Monique Bowley, an ABC producer and former journalist for The Advertiser’s Messenger brand, has worked for the ABC in Queensland and Victoria.

He has hosted numerous regional programs during the past 15 years such as SA’s version of The Country Hour and been heard in the Breakfast and Overnight timeslots.

“I can’t wait to get behind the Breakfast mic,” he said. “And I can’t think of a better person to share that with than Stacey.”

Lee, who has worked in Adelaide and Sydney, has won SA Press Club awards including the Max Fatchen Young Journalist of the Year title when she worked for Channel 7.

“I have loved reporting every aspect of Adelaide life and it is an honour to be given the opportunity to help the city start its day,” she said.

The breakfast show’s “roving reporter” and regular fill-in host Spence Denny has also departed. He told the audience last week he was retiring after 33 years in broadcasting.

ABC Adelaide local manager Graeme Bennett said the two new presenters would “add positive energy and passion to what we do”.
