Beloved SA cuisine queen Maggie Beer has beaten a field of famous international TV hosts to take out a prestigious award in Cannes.
As the food icon and television host, 79, recovers from a terrifying injury inside her Barossa Valley home nearly two months ago, she was named Best Host of a Format at the C21 International Format Awards.
Nominated for her role hosting Maggie Beer’s Big Mission on the ABC, Beer beat out industry heavyweights Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Fry.
She was the only woman in the category.
The awards recognise “creativity and excellence” across the global TV industry.
Her series, Maggie Beer’s Big Mission, is an ambitious social experiment aimed at transforming the meals and dining experience for residents at an aged-care home in Perth, Western Australia.
Spurred by the shock findings from the Royal Commission into Aged Care, the series tracked Beer and her team of experts as they brought a new “appetite for life” to the home’s residents and carers.
Earlier, Beer said she underestimated her injuries after fall at her Barossa Valley home.
On October 11, she shared a heartwarming video to her Instagram, thanking those who supported her through the ordeal.
“The support I’ve had from the whole community, Australia wide, and from friends and family … I’ve just been so thankful and overwhelmed,” she said.
On August 25, Beer’s family revealed she had suffered several minor bone fractures and “related” injuries after the fall.
