FIVEaa’s breakfast show will become a family affair this year, with beloved TV newsreader Graeme Goodings joining his son Will on the top-rating program.
Goodings and former Seven colleague Jess Adamson will take turns reading the weekday news on the early morning show, hosted by Will and David Penberthy.
Kendall Brettig and sports reporter Tom Rehn will remain part of the morning bulletins.
Goodings has been a regular fill-in presenter but this is the first time the father-son duo have worked together permanently on the brekkie program.
A 34-year veteran at Seven, Goodings said he was excited to be “back at the coalface” of breakfast news with Will, who also co-hosts Seven’s weekday news bulletin.
“I’m in absolute awe of what he does each day and beyond excited to be working in the same studio,” said Goodings, who started his career at radio station 5DN.
“Journalism and reading news has been such an integral part of my life for a number of years and I’m extremely happy to join the show and have the opportunity to continue to do what I love.”
Will joked that it was pleasing to see a “young up-and-comer” get an opportunity.
“I’m delighted they gave the young fella a go,” he said.
“In all seriousness, I’m delighted dad is joining us, there isn’t a more experienced news person in the industry. His insight and knowledge will be of huge benefit to the FIVEaa breakfast audience. Also, the job gets him out of mum’s hair for a few hours a day so everybody’s happy.”
An award-winning journalist, TV presenter and columnist with The Advertiser, Adamson said she was “thrilled” to be joining FIVEaa’s breakfast show.
“Delivering the news to South Australians is an enormous privilege and I can’t wait to get started,” she said.
