AFLW superstar Erin Phillips has stepped away from her full-time role on Mix 102.3 after just 18 months. Here’s why.

Erin Phillips has stepped away from her full-time role on Mix 102.3 in a major shake-up for the former top-rating Adelaide radio station.

The AFLW superstar has announced she’s leaving breakfast radio after just 18 months to concentrate on her new position with Port Adelaide’s inaugural women’s team.

But Phillips will remain with the revamped early morning program, The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show, and appear every Friday.

“I’ve decided with a lot of consideration that I won’t be doing radio anymore... in a full-time role,” she said.

“But I love you guys and I love Mix and I want to stay a part of it unfortunately I just can’t do it every morning. This is the right balance for me.

“I’m excited I’m still staying a part of it because it’s something I’m really passionate about.”

Phillips was part of Mix’s new-look breakfast line-up which started in January, alongside the station’s prized new recruit, Clarke, and Irish-born comedian Eddie Bannon.

The show has so far received a lukewarm response from the public, finishing equal fifth in the timeslot in the latest ratings survey.

It’s understood Phillips has 18 months remaining on her original three-year deal.

It’s expected anchor Shane Lowe will take on a more prominent on-air role as part of the program shake-up.

Phillips joined Mix full-time at the start of last year, co-hosting the breakfast show with longtime presenter Mark Soderstrom.

Rumours were rife in radio land last December that Phillips might already be looking to step away from the microphone, with Clarke tipped to replace her.

Instead, Soderstrom departed with Phillips staying on alongside Clarke – whose husband Matt coached her at the Crows – and new addition Bannon.

Phillips revealed in April that she was making the switch from the Crows, where she’d won three premierships, over to the Power, which will join the AFLW competition next season.

She’s spent the last month on holidays in Dallas, US, where her partner, Tracy Gahan, is originally from, before returning home to Adelaide this week.
