IT was in booking herself in for a Covid vaccine that Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew found out she is pregnant with her second child.

Fed up with waiting for a Pfizer jab, the 38-year-old was booking AstraZenica when she was asked if she was pregnant.

“I thought I better check and what do you know,” Bartholomew told The Daily Telegraph. “It actually then took me weeks to find a Pfizer shot, which is recommended for pregnant women, so it’s been an unsettling time.”

Bartholomew shared the happy pregnancy news live on Sunrise yesterday.

“And in some developing news, news that will be developing for the next six months, we are having another baby,” she said as she read the 8.30am news bulletin. “Due in February.”

Bartholomew and partner Neil Varcoe are already parents to one-year-old daughter, Molly, with bub number two due in February.

“I tried to tell Molly, she wasn’t terribly interested,” she laughed. “I showed her the photo, which she proceeded to scrunch up and throw on the floor so hopefully when the baby arrives she doesn’t act the same way.”

Bartholomew said she had found out the gender but would be keeping the detail a secret.

“We found out this time because we just wanted to know but I will keep that a little secret for now I think,” she said. “It is very exciting news. I think that might explain the inappropriate crying and laughing at some stories and just general emotions.”

Sports presenter Matt Shirvington and Bartholomew have worked closely together throughout the recent Tokyo Olympic Games coverage. He smiled knowingly as she made the announcement.

“Shirvo knows because I have been eating Jatz biscuits for the last three weeks during the Olympics just to get through. I am five per cent baby and 95 per cent Jatz.”

She added: “I managed to get through the Olympics and a diet of Jatz, pizza shapes and two minute noodles so I’m glad to be through the first trimester and feeling well again.”

Answering questions from her on air colleagues, Bartholomew said she had been experiencing morning sickness and co-star Natalie Barr had picked the pregnancy due to her eating habits.

“I feel a bit nauseous,” she said. “Nat cottoned on quite quickly as well. There was a lot of peanut butter toast going around in the early hours.”

Weatherman Sam Mac joked that Bartholomew and Varcoe had been busy during coronavirus lockdown.

“Good to see you and Neil have been productive during lockdown,” Mac joked, Bartholomew responding: “Just once”.

Bartholomew and Varcoe met earlier in their careers when they both worked at 2GB radio station.

They were married on their 1890s farmhouse called Warramba, in Glen Alice, west of the Blue Mountains between Lithgow and Mudgee.
