Channel 7’s Elspeth Hussey will realise a dream when she and husband Alastair Dillon welcome their first child next month.
“I’ve always wanted to be a mum,” said the popular reporter and newsreader, who’s due to give birth in mid-October.
“When I was in my younger years I thought I wanted to have four or 5 (children). Now I think I’d be happy with two.”
It’s been a big year for Hussey, who tied the knot with her beau in January at St Mary’s Church, North Adelaide. Soon after their honeymoon on Hamilton Island, they found out they were expecting.
“We were very fortunate that it (becoming pregnant) happened just a couple of weeks after our wedding – it’s just a dream come true,” she said.
The happy couple are keeping the gender of their baby a secret but have settled upon a name as they prepare a nursery room at their Adelaide home.
“We’re both so excited. We’ve started to talk to the tummy using their name, so it’s starting to feel quite real,” said Hussey.
“We’ve still got a few things to do but we’ve got time. Now it’s just about sitting back and waiting for them to arrive.”
A regular runner and gym junkie, Hussey said losing fitness was the most difficult aspect of her pregnancy.
“I’m really looking forward to running again, and working out. I was a really fit person before. That’s been the hardest part for me,” she said.
“But I couldn’t care less about any of that as long as they come out healthy.”
Hussey has been slowly scaling back her workload at Channel 7 and will start maternity leave in just over a week. She has not yet decided how long she will be away from the newsdesk.
“I’m playing it by ear. Seven has been amazing... they are happy to have me back whenever I’m ready which has been comforting to know,” she said.
