Warren Tredrea’s replacement at Nine News Adelaide has thrown his support behind the sports presenter after his departure from the station over their Covid vaccination mandate.
SA-born Corey Norris will return home to host Nine’s weekend sports bulletin, starting next month, with former weekend presenter Tom Rehn to step up into Tredrea’s weekday chair.
Norris, who has spent the last 10 years at Nine in Melbourne, said he didn’t have “any issue” with Tredrea’s reluctance to receive the Covid vaccine, which led to his exit from the network following lengthy negotiations.
Nine introduced a double-vaccination mandate for employees on all its sites nationally in early December.
“What unfolded with Tredders is very unfortunate however that’s entirely his decision, but I respect the fact he stuck by his decision and his morals,” Norris said.
“I don’t have any issue with his decision, he’s made that and he’s stuck to it and good luck to him.
“I’ve got a lot of time for Tredders, he’s a great bloke … I think everyone would love to see him back in the industry at some stage but I guess that’s more up to him than anyone else.”
Nine News Adelaide announced Tredrea, Port Adelaide’s 2004 AFL premiership captain, would be leaving the station in early January.
“Nine can confirm Warren Tredrea will not be presenting sport on our Adelaide bulletins into the future. We are disappointed to see Warren leave but we wish him well,” the network said in a statement.
Norris, who started his career in Adelaide at Nine in 2005, said the offer to come back home, made after Tredrea left the station, was “too good to refuse”.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Norris, who has three-year-old twins, Kai and Ella, with wife Paula.
“It’s a great team at Nine and there’s still so many of the same people there.
“And with young twins, it’ll be good to get home and have a bit more family support. I’m really excited to get started.”
