Nine News Adelaide has officially parted ways with sports presenter Warren Tredrea following a month of negotiations and speculation on his future.
Tredrea took leave from the station in early December after Channel 9 introduced a double-vaccination mandate for employees on all its sites nationally.
Nine issued a statement to Advertiser.com.au on Saturday saying: “Nine can confirm Warren Tredrea will not be presenting sport on our Adelaide bulletins into the future. We are disappointed to see Warren leave but we wish him well.”
When contacted by The Advertiser, Tredrea – who has been working for Nine since 2013 – said he “can’t speak” on the matter.
In September, the former Port Adelaide AFL captain told FIVEaa’s Rowey’s Sports Show: “I’m fully vaccinated… but I’m not Covid-vaccinated.”
He has also said on air: “People have the right to make their own call. That’s the same as anyone walking the streets of Adelaide, you’ve got your choice to make. It is a confidential right, absolutely.”
Nine confirmed that Tom Rehn would continue to present sport as he has done over the summer break, with an official announcement on Tredrea’s replacement to be made in the coming weeks.
On Friday, SA’s chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier revealed that 13 of the 16 people currently in intensive care were unvaccinated with two patients on a ventilator.
That over-representation is despite just 10 per cent of the state’s population remaining unvaxxed.
“It really is so important for everybody to get themselves protected – it’s lifesaving,” Professor Spurrier said.
On Saturday, Premier Steven Marshall reconfirmed that 80 per cent of ICU patients were unvaccinated.
