Every time The Voice Australia contestant Adam Ludewig steps on stage, he prays that his best mate is watching down on him.

“I look down, close my eyes and pray that he’s there watching me and guarding me,” he says.

Affectionately known as “Mr Mullet”, 16-year-old Ludewig experienced the most devastating loss of his life when his best friend, Bradley Streeter, fell to his death at a sinkhole in Mount Gambier.

Police told Mr Streeter’s family he was performing a handstand when he tragically fell 30 metres to the bottom of the Cave Gardens sinkhole.

“I was at my mate’s house at the time and I woke up and checked my phone and people were saying ‘rest in peace Bradley’, and I was like ‘what? What’s going on?’,” the Two Wells teenager told The Advertiser.

Just five days after Mr Streeter’s funeral in February, Ludewig began the blind auditions of The Voice Australia.

“It was a hard moment. Seeing him in the casket just really got me, But, I know that he’s up there living his best life,” Ludewig said.

“I hope he is proud – I hope I’m doing everything right for him.”

After wowing Australia with his performance in the blind auditions, Ludewig joined Guy Sebastian’s “team”.

Speaking ahead of The Battles tonight, Ludewig reflected on Mr Streeter’s larger-than-life personality and reminisced on family trips to Port Broughton as children.

“He knew how to make a room light up – there was never a dull moment with him,” he said.

“Any time it came down to family, he was there. He was a family man and he loved the fact that he made an impact on so many people.

“That’s why his legacy still lives on to this day. People are still putting stickers out for him and people are still doing things for him”

Ludewig wrote an original song for Mr Streeter, of Lewiston, in February, which he hopes to have professionally recorded and distributed to the world.

“I was in school, it was lunchtime and I was thinking about everything and how he left,” he said.

“I put some chords together and I just thought, ‘I miss him. Come home, please’.”

The emotional song has more than 50,000 views on YouTube.

“I ended up writing that song in about 40 minutes – it just came to me. It was meant to be.”
