SA teenager Adam Ludewig, wows coaches on The Voice Australia with incredible performance - and his mullet hairstyle

South Australian singer Adam Ludewig impressed The Voice Australia coaches, first with his incredible talent and then with his distinctive 80s hairstyle during the blind auditions.

The Voice is back

The Voice Australia’s newest superstar Adam Ludewig has vowed to keep his mullet hairstyle regardless of where his music career takes him.

The Voice Australia’s newest superstar Adam Ludewig has vowed to keep his mullet hairstyle regardless of where his music career takes him.

The teenager from Two Wells kicked off the new season of Nine’s reality singing show in spectacular style, turning all four coaches’ chairs with his incredible voice.

He also turned a few heads with his distinctive South Australian hairdo, and Ludewig, 16, said he won’t be changing his look anytime soon.

“Mate, the mullet is here to stay,” he said of his 80s-style haircut made famous by actors Mel Gibson and the late Patrick Swayze, and recently revived by former Crows captain Taylor Walker.

“It’s business at the front, party at the back. I didn’t want a mullet like everyone else, I wanted my own version of the mullet.

“It stands out from the crowd, you can really notice me... don’t be afraid to come up and say hello.”

Voice coach, Adelaide’s Guy Sebastian - once known for his own iconic hairstyle, the fro - couldn’t have been more impressed with Ludewig’s performance or his classic flowing locks.

“Sick mullet and it made so much more sense when you said you’re from Adelaide! We love a good mullet in Adelaide and we love a great singer,” Sebastian told him.

While former Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland turned her chair first, just 16 seconds into the teenager’s version of Leave a Light On by Tom Walker, Ludewig chose Sebastian as his mentor.

“Guy comes from Adelaide, he went to Paradise Church, he’s from Golden Grove so he would really understand me and be able to help me to become the best I can be,” he said.

“Like he said, I’m a rough diamond but he can help me maybe become a superstar.”

It’s been a tough childhood for Ludewig, who was diagnosed with ADHD and autism at an early age.

“It really did take toll on me but I stayed strong, I coped with it and didn’t give up. I just stayed true to myself,” said the Playford International College Year 11 student, who had only once previously performed in front of a crowd, and usually sings at home alone in the bathroom.

“I want to make songs that really motivate people and tell them that they’re not just a nobody, and that it’s okay to be different. If everyone was the same on this earth, it would be pretty boring.”

Most importantly, Ludewig just wants to do SA proud and show people that “anything is possible”.

“It’s definitely amazing to represent SA and especially my hometown Two Wells, Lewiston. Two Wells isn’t really on the map sort of thing... it’s about to get put on the map hardcore,” he said.
