NRL player Sam Burgess and his wife Phoebe have become a family of four, welcoming their second child on Sunday.
The baby boy named William ‘Billy’ Mark Burgess weighed in at 4.22kg and is the younger brother to almost 2-year-old Poppy Alice.
Two days after the birth, Phoebe, 29, took to social media to announce the news yesterday afternoon sharing a black and white selfie taken by Sam, with her holding baby Billy. The image was captioned: “Welcome to our world little big man, our hearts are so full. #FamilyofFour”.
Within an hour, the post had gained more than 9,000 likes and over 300 comments.
The birth of their son comes just three months after South Sydney star Sam, also 29, became embroiled in a ‘sexting’ scandal after The Daily Telegraph reported that a 23-year-old woman complained to the Rabbitohs claiming she felt “disgusted and violated” after exchanges on social media via Burgess’ accounts, and that the club had not properly responded.
The incident happened after the Rabbitohs victory over the Warriors in Auckland on May 26.
Screenshots taken of Burgess’s Facebook Messenger account during the exchanges show a naked man baring his genitalia, and another man flashing his backside. The men’s faces could not be seen in the nude shots.
Following an internal investigation into the claims, Burgess along with other Rabbitohs players, were cleared of “any actionable misconduct.”
The Telegraph understands players told investigators that the social media exchanges were consensual.
While Phoebe has not directly commented on the scandal, she appears to have stuck by her husband throughout the saga.
Three days after the allegations against Sam emerged, the WAG shared a snap of her sitting on picnic rug with her pregnant belly exposed and Poppy next to her captioned: “Moments in the sun with our babies.”
While Sam doesn’t feature in the photo, he is tagged and the shadow of the photographer capturing the moment appears to be his.
In what may have been a move to avoid the spotlight, the young family also enjoyed a Fijian holiday shortly after Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing.
