OUTGOING Crows defender Jake Lever has proposed to his longtime girlfriend Jessica Hansen on a first-class flight to Europe.
The 21-year old Victorian, who quit the Crows last week in favour of a lucrative four-year deal from Melbourne, popped the big question mid-flight, with Ms Hansen sharing the good news on social media soon after landing.
“Well that was a rocky flight,” she captioned a photo of herself showcasing the huge oval-cut diamond engagement ring. Ms Hansen, a teacher, also posted a photo of her and Lever celebrating on-board the Qatar Airways plane with a glass of champagne.
The couple were immediately congratulated by Crows wives and girlfriends including the other halves of Taylor Walker, Rory Sloane, Daniel Talia, Charlie Cameron and Brad Crouch.
The engagement comes just days after possible Crows trade target, South Australian Bryce Gibbs, also proposed to his long-term partner Lauren Tscharke while on holiday in Fiji. Carlton star Gibbs, 28, and Tscharke have a two-and-a-half year old son together called Charlie.

The Crows began talks with Melbourne yesterday over a trade for Lever, who played 56 games with Adelaide in three seasons after being drafted in 2014.
Meanwhile, the wife of Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan has dismissed allegations the club told Lever not to attend Friday night’s best-and-fairest, saying instead it was Lever’s call to skip the event.
Alana Fagan told Triple M radio on Monday that Lever was invited and he turned his back on attending.
“From my understanding, and I’m not a club spokesperson but I do hear a bit, and from my understanding the club is pretty bemused by all those reports,” Mrs Fagan said while co-hosting the brekkie show.
“The situation was that Jake Lever advised the club that he would not be attending, he was heading straight to Melbourne, he was on his way to Melbourne.
“There are an incredible number of rumours and untruths being thrown around at this point in time, it’s the silly season, we know that happens, but for the fans it’s very difficult to decipher what is real and what’s not, so to clear that up, it was Jake’s decision.”
Ms Fagan’s comments contradict what Lever’s father Alan told The Advertiser when he said how hurt Lever and the family were by Adelaide’s decision telling him not to attend.
