CHANNEL 9 Adelaide newsreader Brenton Ragless is flattered by speculation he could replace Karl Stefanovic as Today show host, insiders say, but he is committed to SA.
Ragless is the network’s preferred choice to fill breakfast TV’s top job should Stefanovic be moved on, according to reports.
A poll on advertiser.com.au showed 78 per cent of more than 600 voters backed Ragless taking the job.
But local Nine insiders said Ragless, who was out of range in the Flinders Ranges on Sunday, isn’t going anywhere yet.
“Raggy” would be a surprise choice to replace Stefanovic, whose leaked Uber conversation with brother Peter about co-host Georgie Gardner angered Gardner and Nine bosses. In contrast, executives were reportedly impressed with Ragless’s “natural, everyman” style when he filled in on Today over Christmas.
“There’s no denying Brenton’s popularity with his colleagues and Nine News viewers in Adelaide. He’s a dedicated family man, has a strong volunteer connection to the CFS and MFS and will never leave a room before he’s had the chance to talk to everyone; what’s not to love?” a Nine insider said.
