Cabaret favourite Michael Griffiths admits he doesn’t believe he’s “quite earned” his star on the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Walk of Fame.
“But I’m not about to say no,” laughed the Adelaide performer, who joins Barry Kosky and Annette Shun Wah as 2017 recipients of the prestigious honour.
“I’m a local boy who’s done a few Adelaide Festivals and Fringes and just loves what he does. It’s all about keeping it in perspective.
“But I’m chuffed and humbled and honoured that’s it in my hometown … because it’s not going to happen anywhere else.”
Griffiths won the 2017 public vote, thanks to his popular Cabaret Festival show Lucky: Songs By Kylie.
Internationally-renowned Australian director Kosky, whose show Saul was the centrepiece of the 2017 Adelaide Festival, was selected by the critics circle.
Writer, broadcaster and producer Shun Wah was chosen by the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust.
US composer Leonard Bernstein and the late Frank Ford are other new additions to the Walk of Fame, which is supported by The Advertiser.
Running along the centre’s northern promenade to the Riverbank bridge, the Walk of Fame features the names of more than 130 performers and artists whose work has graced the Festival Centre’s stages, such as singers John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John.
