Reality TV bad boy Dean Wells has sworn off booze and Married At First Sight.
And the Sydney businessman is hoping the commitment will pay off with his latest foray into television.
“I have changed all my eating habits and I don’t drink,” Wells told Confidential. “I am not drinking at all, it has been about four weeks, which for me is pretty good.
“I am not drinking, not partying, not going out, avoiding all of that stuff and just putting my head down.”
Wells is one of 10 contestants set to compete on Dancing With The Stars when it premieres on Channel 10 on Sunday night.
Partnered with professional dancer Alex Vladimirov, Wells has been training five hours a day ahead of his first performance.
“It is brutal,” he said. “You can’t live an unhealthy life. You can’t drink or eat bad food. You have to sleep properly.
“You have to be a more efficient, disciplined, dedicated person. There is no way around that.”
Wells is known to reality TV viewers for being the bad boy of his season of Married At First Sight, having cheated on his on-screen partner Tracey Jewel and later apologising.
The new series started this week and Wells has not been watching.
“I haven’t watched MAFS, I am not into it,” he said.
“It is like watching a magician knowing the trick and knowing how it is done and how they got the result. They have ruined all the tricks so I can’t watch MAFS anymore.”
Wells agreed to compete on Dancing With The Stars in order to raise money for his chosen charity, the BridgIT Water Foundation.
It will, he hopes, also be an opportunity to show Australia the real him.
“Seeing yourself on TV, watching some of the things I said and did, it was a wake up call and makes you think about your affect on other people,” he said.
“That was a learning experience for me.”
As for his relationship status, Wells is very much single and looking for love.
“I am always searching for love, there’s no one really on the radar at the moment so I am still looking.”
