MAFS 2020 Episode 36 Recap: Finale Fallout

Married at First Sight bride Natasha Spencer was rushed to hospital ahead of Sunday night’s explosive reunion.

The financial analyst told Confidential she suffered a mental breakdown and was taken to The Royal North Shore Hospital via an ambulance following self-harm concerns.

“On Friday, I had a mental breakdown and the police were called to my apartment,” Spencer, 27, said.

“My neighbours called because they were worried I was going to harm myself. I was taken to The Royal North Shore Hospital in an ambulance and I was released within a couple of hours.”

Spencer, who has been open about her mental health struggles, said vicious trolling on social media led to her hospitalisation.

She was held under section 22 of the NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and underwent a psychiatric assessment.

“If I left without doctor’s approval I would have been taken into police custody. I’m out now and taking some time to myself,” she said.

Earlier this year, Spencer revealed her struggle with anxiety after a topless video leak followed by an alleged cheating scandal involving her TV husband Mikey Pembroke and fellow bride Stacey Hampton.

She said watching Sunday night’s reunion episode was tough.

“It was pretty disappointing that production cut out some things... I copped it with some pretty hateful messages so special thanks to production company Endemol Shine again,” she said.

“Endemol Shine was so worried about my mental health so to do that on the final edit and make me look like an absolute villain is so disappointing because they know what comes from when you get that kind of edit.”

She said Channel 9 have offered to arrange professional help after she was given a bad edit on the show.

“They first gave us a show psychologist but now they’ve given us a hotline,” Spencer said.

“I told them I wouldn’t use it because on my darkest days when I can’t get out of bed, it’s not like I’m going to pick up the phone and chat to a stranger. They are now paying for a minimum of six sessions with an outside psychologist.”

Spencer was partnered with operations manager Pembroke on the show and she claims that he’s also having a hard time.

“Mikey was telling me how much he struggled and how much this has brought on for him,” she said.

“From what I understand, everyone is really struggling. Tash [Herz] has been crying all morning. KC [Osborne] and Michael [Goonan] are getting a lot of mixed responses to their relationship.”

Confidential has contacted Channel 9 and Endemol for comment.
