Lisa sings for our gala supper
COMBINING her television work with the theatre has its benefits for Lisa McCune.
SWEETHEART of stage and screen Lisa McCune dreams of teaming up with renowned Adelaide Festival artistic director Neil Armfield.
“I’ve never worked with Neil and I know he’s got a huge history in SA,” she says.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to cross paths with him, so who knows what might happen in the future.”
Last year, McCune reunited with Adelaide soprano Greta Bradman for their hit show From Broadway to La Scala at Her Majesty’s. In 2016, she starred in the State Theatre Company’s Machu Picchu at the Dunstan Playhouse. She returns to sing at STC’s twice-yearly gala fundraising dinner at Thebarton on October 20. “I love coming over and working in South Australia,” she says.
“It’s great to be a part of the night and provide some light relief! I’ve really enjoyed my time there; it’s just a gorgeous place and a passionate arts city.”
Combining stage work with TV has benefits for the popular performer. While she became a household name on long-running 1990s TV series Blue Heelers, Lisa has spent much of her recent career in stage shows such as South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
“I’ve been really lucky to somehow do both,” the four-time Gold Logie winner says.
“I don’t love one more than the other. I really enjoy switching between the two.
“They really complement each other. I’ve noticed it a bit recently; I was shooting (TV show) How To Stay Married with during the day, and I was going to the theatre at night and it was amazing how much sharper all of my instincts were because I was doing a play as well. It requires a lot of precision on stage and I could really notice the difference in the way I approached my television work.”
