ROBERT Plant, the voice of legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, has announced an Adelaide concert for April.
The 69-year-old singer of such massive hits as Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love, will play a string of intimate theatre shows — including Adelaide’s historic Thebarton Theatre — while in Australia to headline Byron Bay’s Bluesfest.
The announcement is a cherry on the pie for fans of classic rock, with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, Queen and Jackson Browne all playing Adelaide early in 2018.
Bringing the band The Sensational Shape Shifters with him, Plant said he was keen to showcase new songs from his latest album Carry Fire, released in October.
“It’s about intention,” he said. “I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the lure and incentive to create new work.
“Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”
While Carry Fire is receiving rave reviews around the world, fans of Plant’s groundbreaking work with Zeppelin in the late 1960s and 1970s won’t be disappointed, with plenty of Led Zep songs getting an airing during his recent shows.
