PORT Adelaide legend Gavin Wanganeen admits there were few nerves as he welcomed his fifth child, Posey Theadora, into the family earlier this month.
Wanganeen’s wife Pippa gave birth to the couple’s third daughter on February 18 at Calvary Hospital, joining sisters Kitty Emerald, two-and-a-half, and Lulu Allegra, 14 months. The Power premiership player also has two children, Tex, 12 and Mia, 15, from a previous marriage.
“It all went really well, Posey is perfect, it was a great moment once again,” Wanganeen said.
“It was so much more relaxed this time, I wasn’t as nervous or worried that I was holding the little one too firmly. He added with a laugh: “Over the years you realise how durable they are, at the same time you don’t want to be handballing them around.”
Wanganeen’s expanding brood is now equal with Crows champion and The Advertiser columnist Mark “Roo” Ricciuto; a fact which didn’t escape the 1993 Brownlow medallist.
“Pippa and I actually bumped into Roo on the Parade about a month ago and I told him I was about to catch up to him,” Wanganeen said.
However, Ricciuto will soon add a sixth child with wife Sarah expected to give birth in April.
Wanganeen hasn’t completely ruled out adding another member to the family, saying it’s “up in the air” at this stage.
“Pippa is such a great mother, a natural ... I wouldn’t be surprised if we go around again. Never say never,” he said.
