She’s faced many challenges over the years, including a media storm over topless photos, but Erin McNaught admits nothing could have prepared her for the mental and emotional struggles she faced on SAS Australia.

The former Miss Australia was left covered in painful bruises after her stint on the Channel 7 show and she described it as the “toughest” experience of her life.

“It’s certainly the toughest test I’ve ever undertaken. No amount of training can prepare you for it,” she said.

“I did the show for two reasons. The first reason was because I feel like I’ve led a very lucky, privileged life, having never experienced severe hardship or tragedy, and that’s partly due to the sacrifices our war veterans made for our freedom.

“I felt it was important to experience some of the suffering they endured in order to understand what they went through. The second reason was to show my boys that women and mums can do anything they put their minds to so that hopefully they form relationships with girls/women based on strength of character.”

The mother-of-two was surprised by her own perseverance throughout filming.

“I was surprised at just how far you can push the human body,” she said. “I’ve thought in the past that I had reached my physical limit, yet during the course I realised I had never really even been close! When your mind is strong, your body becomes almost unstoppable.”

McNaught, 38, joins the likes of former ironwoman Candice Warner and Bachelor star Nick Cummins on the upcoming reality show, which began filming in New Zealand earlier this year before moving to the Snowy Mountains due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The model relocated to Australia last year after seven years in the UK.

She is married to British rapper Example (Elliot Gleave) and they share two sons Evander and Ennio.

SAS: Who Dares Wins premieres in October on Channel 7.
