Almost 20,000 young South Australians have converged on Wayville on Friday evening for the Groovin The Moo music festival.

The daylong concert, held at the Adelaide Showground, featured a line-up of Australian and overseas rock, pop and hip hop acts, including 17-year-old US “it girl” Billie Eilish who currently has eight singles in the Australian top 50 chart.

But perhaps the biggest response was saved for hometown heroes the Hilltop Hoods, with the Adelaide rappers dropping a set of old favourites and new tracks from their chart-topping 2019 album The Great Expanse.

Groovin The Moo, which first came to Oakbank in 2014 before moving to the city in 2017, has filled a huge hole in the Adelaide festival scene following the demise of the Big Day Out, Soundwave, Stereosonic and Future Music festivals.
