AMERICAN bandEarth, Wind and Fire were famous for combining disco, R&B, soul and jazz to create a unique sound.
Well, now you can add gospel to that mix, thanks to the efforts of Adelaide musical director Charmaine Jones and ARIA award-winning singer Andrew DeSilva.
The pair have collaborated on a show called The Gospel According to Earth Wind, and Fire, and Charmaine says mashing together two of her great loves – gospel and pop – came naturally.
“It made complete sense to mash up the music of this great band and gospel music,” she says.
“Both are life-giving forces, and both speak the truth.”
And while Charmaine grew up listening to her parents’ Seventies pop, it was Andrew who introduced her to the wonders of EW&F through his 1995 cover of Let’s Groove with his bandCDB.
When their paths crossed while working on last year’s ASO George Michael tribute show, Charmaine says they knew immediately that they had to work together.
“I really think it was meant to be,” she says.
