THE team at Adelaide talk station FIVEaa will have a few extra reasons to celebrate this silly season after winning key timeslots across the day in the last radio ratings survey for 2017.
The strong finish also coincided with news today that two time Crows premiership coach Malcolm Blight will be returning to Adelaide after nearly 20 years away to co-host a sports show on the station with former Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes.
FIVEaa’s David Penberthy and Will Goodings powered home in the coveted breakfast timeslot, ending the year with an audience share of 14.9, up 2.3 points on the last survey to finish on top for the first time since 2014.
The pair finished ahead of ABC Radio Adelaide’s Ali Clarke, who lost pole position in the timeslot, ending the year with an audience share of 12.6, down two points on the last survey.
The backward slide was part of a broader trend with the ABC losing ground in every timeslot.
Clarke began hosting the breakfast show in July, replacing veteran journalists Matthew Abraham and David Bevan, who hosted together for 15 years - the last six in breakfast.
Bevan now hosts the ABC’s morning show from 9am but joins Clarke from 8.30am for the last half-hour of the breakfast show.
Bevan finished the year on 8.9, down 1.9 points and trailing Hit 107, Triple M, Cruise1323, Fiveaa and Mix102.3, which won the timeslot with 12.7.
There was more bad news for the ABC in evenings with host Peter Goers finishing the year more than 10 points behind Fiveaa’s Jeremy Cordeaux who took up the evenings show in January 2017, and who finished the year with a whopping audience share of 19.6.
Goers slipped 2.2 points to finish on 9.3, behind Nova91.9 (12) and Mix102.3 (9.8).
On the FM dial, Mix102.3’s Jodie and Soda kept a narrow lead in breakfast, slipping 0.4 points to finish on 11.8 ahead of Triple M’s Roo and Ditts who fell back 0.3 points to finish on 10.7.
Nova91.9 maintained its dominance in the drive timeslot, increasing its share by 2.1 points to finish the year on 15.3 and 2.5 points ahead of its nearest rival, Mix102.3.
Overall, Mix102.3 finished the year as SA’s most popular station with 12.3 points with Nova91.9 coming in second on 12 and Fiveaa third with 11.7.
