ADELAIDE’S designer with the Midas touch, Paolo Sebastian creator Paul Vasileff, is making history in the world’s fashion capital with his new collection.
The 26-year-old will become the first South Australian to show in Paris when he launches his 2016-17 Autumn/Winter Couture Collection “Gilded Wings” tomorrow and Monday in the La Maison Champs Élysées.
His trip and showroom presentation, funded by the State Government and coordinated by the organisers of the Adelaide Fashion Festival, has been timed to coincide with Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, which begins tomorrow.
Influential international fashion media and buyers attending fashion week have been invited to the Paolo Sebastian events.
Australian brands paraded at Paris Fashion Week have included Collette Dinnigan, Martin Grant and Kym Ellery’s Ellery, which made its debut last year after previously showing off-schedule like Paolo Sebastian.
Vasileff is, no doubt, hoping to be included in an official program in the future and become the fourth Australian designer to make a name at Paris Fashion Week.
The designer, who has a premises in Gouger St, where all his couture is handmade for clients worldwide, plans to remain in Adelaide where he founded the luxurious label when he was 17.
“I would love to have an atelier in Paris one day. Adelaide will always be our home base, and that’s so important to me,” he said.
“It would be fantastic to one day have our showrooms across the world, particularly in Paris.”
