Adelaide’s international cabaret superstar Hans hasn’t taken out America’s Got Talent: The Champions – but the Accordion King is still a winner, releasing his debut single.

Adelaide’s own international cabaret superstar Hans has emerged victorious from America’s Got Talent: The Champions despite missing out on the winner’s crown.
Indian dance group V.Unbeatable pipped our Boy Wonder from Berlin – the alter-ego of Sunday Mail columnist Matt Gilbertson – in today’s grand finale of the popular US reality show, but Hans said he still feels like a champion.
“From the moment the show started, I knew V.Unbeatable would win. But to make it all the way to the finale was something I could have never imagined happening,” he said.
“My show isn’t meant to be anything emotional or intellectual, many people actually leave my show dumber than the way they came in, but it is meant to be FUN.
“And I’ve actually heard from lots of people from all over the world who are having all sorts of problems at the moment and the one thing they all say it that my act made them forget that for a while and made them smile, so for me that’s better than winning any reality show.”
In addition to winning legions of new fans around the world, Hans has released his debut single, Oxygen, co-written with Chong Lim and produced by Ross Fraser, the team behind Australian music legend John Farnham.
Inspired by his childhood in Berlin, Hans describes the song as a “touching (and totally raunchy) love ballad to … The Accordion”.
“Darling, last year Lizzo made the flute famous again and I have decided that in 2020 it’s the accordion’s turn! This is an ode to minority instrumentalists the world over!” he said.
The first release on his new start-up record label, Hans Disco Discs, Oxygen will be available on all streaming platforms or fans can hear him perform the song at his new Adelaide Fringe Festival show, Haus of Hans: Disco Spectakulär, which kicks off at Gluttony on February 25.
