Hailee Steinfeld debuts unrecognisable new look at the Met Gala

Met Gala tragics were left scrambling to figure out who the mystery star with the sharp blonde bob was today — with many left gobsmacked on discovering it was actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld sporting an entirely new look.

Steinfeld, best known for the Pitch Perfect films and pop hits like Starving and Let Me Go, stepped out onto the red carpet for the event in New York with bleached eyebrows and a bold new ‘do which was quite the departure from her signature long, dark brown hair.

Fashion-forward Steinfeld stunned in a micro-mini Iris van Herpen dress for her 10th Met Gala, which was themed In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion

But while the striking leaf-inspired dress has been named one of the looks of the day by multiple fashion sites, it was the 24-year-old True Grit actress’ appearance that garnered the biggest reaction on Twitter, with many saying they had to double and triple-check it was in fact her.

We don’t blame them.

It looks as though the change-up was done especially for the fashion event, given just last week she was looking like the Hailee Steinfeld we have come to recognise at a New York fashion event:

According to Pop Sugar, Steinfeld’s new locks were the magic of hairstylist Ruslan Nureev, who documented her transformation in his Instagram Story, writing, “Did something different.”

Steinfeld wasn’t the only celeb to rock bleached eyebrows, with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams nailing the trend while serving gothic goddess in all black.

Nor was Steinfeld alone in setting tongues wagging today, with Kim Kardashian raising more than a few eyebrows with her wacky outfit.

The reality star was brutally mocked on Twitter after opting to hide her face and body entirely in an all-black custom Balenciaga bodysuit complete with an eerie face covering.

The billionaire beauty mogul attended New York’s Metropolitan Museum alongside her estranged husband, Kanye West, who was also covered top-to-toe in a black tracksuit and face cover.

Fans were quick to compare her to a “dementor” from Harry Potter.
