IF YOU tuned in to The Project at the wrong moment on Tuesday night, you’d be forgiven for thinking co-host Carrie Bickmore was pregnant with bub number three.
But it was all a cheeky joke by her co-hosts, who were poking fun at tabloid reports the popular presenter is expecting.
The “announcement” came after Bickmore read a report that Netflix binges are a sex drive killer for some couples.
That’s when Peter Helliar dropped the big surprise.
“Speaking of those kinds of activities — big announcement. Big congratulations in order. Carrie Bickmore, baby number three on its way!” he said bringing out a bunch of flowers and handing them to Bickmore while the audience cheered.
“We got you, we also wanted to, we thought this would be great. I hope you don’t mind us giving away it’s a boy. They are sensational!” Helliar continued.
“No!” Bickmore laughed. “I had a big focaccia for lunch.”
Waleed Aly was also in on the prank and joined Helliar as he continued the bit.
“Industry sources are suggesting that on Logies night you opted for water,” he said. “It’s in a magazine, magazines don’t lie. They work very hard. Carrie’s baby news. You have been wearing uncharacteristically loose clothes on The Project.
“You look like a bag lady tonight, what’s going on? Very fashionable bag lady. And here is a picture of you on Instagram, only showing a shot from behind.”
That’s when the boys showed a photo of Bickmore in a gown with her body turned towards a wall, her arm covering the length of her torso.
But Bickmore was quick to point out it was all a big joke.
“If you’re watching at home, mum, no, OK. I just started sleeping! God, that would be a nightmare!” she said.
Later in the show, when Aly and Hellier brought up the “news” again, Bickmore clarified one more time: “No, no, no! Carrie’s non-baby news”.
The on-air jab at tabloid rumours comes almost a week after Bickmore fired back at media outlets that criticised her for wearing the same outfit twice.
