BLAKE Lively’s butt pride has gotten her in trouble.
On Tuesday, the pregnant actress, 28, posted a split image of herself on the red carpet promoting Woody Allen’s Café Society at Cannes — one that showed off front and back views of her glittering gold gown — to Instagram along with the caption: “L.A. face with an Oakland booty.”
It’s those words, a quote from Sir Mix-A-Lot’s seminal rap hit Baby Got Back, that have people up in arms, with many criticising her use of the quote as racially insensitive.
Jezebel’s J.E. Reich pointed out that the caption “touts a diametrical opposition: that Los Angeles can be equated to elegance and/or beauty (read: whiteness), and that Oakland is its foil (read: blackness).”
Over at MTV, Ira Madison III explained that “‘Oakland booty’ refers to a large derrière, an undesirable butt that Jane Fonda workout tape enthusiasts from L.A. wouldn’t be caught dead with. It’s the reason you take SoulCycle classes. It’s why you have Pressed Juicery on speed dial. It’s the type of ass that the Kardashians or white people turn into a circus attraction like Saartjie Baartman.”
Whether or not that is what Lively meant, it’s undeniable that is what many have read the post to mean.
I don't know what a @blakelively is, but I couldn't care less about what she has to say about her booty or her face. #GetYourLives

Another day, another rich white woman using WOC's bodies as a punchline and commodity. As if Blake Lively wasn't the worst already.

@blakelively instead of your Oakland booty tell us more about how Woody Allen empowers women and the abuse allegations are not your business
