‘She makes talking s**t sound so sweet’: Travis Kelce adores Swift’s diss track Actually Romantic
Taylor Swift's NFL star fiance has crowned her latest revenge song among his favourite, as the pop icon revealed the extraordinary lengths Travis Kelce went to for their engagement.
Travis Kelce is here for Taylor Swift throwing shade.
On Wednesday’s episode of his and brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, he named the pop star’s Charli XCX diss track, Actually Romantic, as the one who listens to the most.
“That’s become, I wouldn’t say my new favourite, but that’s the one I catch myself going to whenever I look at the list.
“It’s got that alternative rock, like fun ‘90s rock. I love that s**t,” the Chiefs tight end raved.
“She makes talking s**t sound so sweet,” he added.
Jason agreed that the 7th track off of The Life of a Showgirl was in his “other top three” after Opalite and Eldest Daughter.
Fans immediately connected Actually Romantic to the British singer because of the opening lyrics, “I heard you call me “Boring Barbie” when the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face.”
Charli has been open about her alleged drug use in her songs and is friends with Swift’s ex Matty Healy.
The DJ has yet to directly respond to the song but shared a cryptic video on Monday.
In the brief clip, fans can hear instruments creating a volume swell.
She simply captioned the post, “
‘I EMBRACE THE CHAOS’
Taylor Swift has had a candid response to the passionate response – good and bad – to her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
During an appearance on Apple Music’s “The Zane Lowe Show,” the superstar thanked the fans who “immediately” got the album, but she also had words for the critics.
Swift told New Zealander Lowe that she “welcomes the chaos” seeing that it’s a “rule of show business”.
“If it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping,” she said. “And art, I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art. I’m not the art police. It’s like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want. And what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.”
The album has received mixed reviews from critics with some praise for its unabashed, joyful sound, while others have criticised the lyrics for their perceived lack of depth.
Swift also gave a rare insight into what continues to drive her to make music. “We’re doing this thing for keeps. I have such an eye on legacy when I’m making my music. I know what I made. I know I adore it, and I know that on the theme of what the Showgirl is, all of this is part of it.”
Earlier, Swift put online rumours to rest during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the US.
After hyping her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” and gushing over her “favourite person” — fiance Travis Kelce — Jimmy Fallon asked Swift to address a few elephants in the room.
Fallon listed five rumours he had read online about Swift, which included her turning down the Super Bowl halftime show because the NFL wouldn’t allow her to own the footage, Ed Sheeran learning about her engagement on Instagram and her joking about Selena Gomez beating her to the altar while giving a speech at the latter’s wedding.
He also brought up rumours that Swift was spotted walking a mystery dog in Florida and that Kelce could be heard harmonising on her new track “Opalite.”
When it came time for the “Fate of Ophelia” singer to make the big reveal, she explained that it was the rumour about Sheeran that was true. “He doesn’t have a phone,” she said.
While it was previously reported that Swift joked about beating Gomez to the altar, the singer confirmed it never happened by saying, “It’s false!”
“I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” she explained.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we used to dress in 2008 — the year we met. Because we met when we were teenagers and 2008 was quite a year, let me tell you. I talked a little about 2008, how happy I am for her and how beautiful it’s been getting to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me.”
The talk show appearance marked the pop superstar’s second since the release of her highly anticipated 12th studio album, as she appeared on The Graham Norton Show last Friday when it dropped.
On “The Life of a Showgirl,” Swift — who got engaged to Kelce in August — sings about falling in love with the NFL star.
She announced her new album during her first-ever appearance on his New Heights podcast, which immediately preceded his proposal.
While the two were talking with his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce, Travis had a team setting up the elaborate backdrop for his romantic proposal in the garden-esque backyard of his Kansas home.
“He really crushed it in surprising me,” Swift gushed on The Graham Norton Show.
“While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in.”
The singer-songwriter marvelled, “He went all out — 10 out of 10.”
The couple waited about two weeks before sharing the news with the world.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” they captioned a joint Instagram post that featured five photos from their engagement, which were taken by Swift’s Eras Tour photographer.
Meanwhile, Fallon hinted at Swift’s appearance on his show late last month with an Easter egg-filled teaser.
The clip showed the comedian playing roulette and placing his chips on the numbers 10 and 6, the date of Swift’s appearance.
Upon spinning the wheel, the ball landed on her favourite number: 13.
“Baby, that’s show business for ya,” Fallon said before leaving the room and entering a hallway, where he was nearly trampled by three women dressed in orange, red and pink showgirl outfits.
“Excuse us, honey,” one of them said, which fans suspected was a reference to track 11, “Honey.”
Fallon cheekily captioned the Instagram post, “Not a lot going on at the moment,” but later returned to the comments section to confirm Swift as his guest.
