The Princess of Wales left royal fans in awe with a striking, powerful image, which is already predicted to be remembered in history.

It was a historic event dedicated to King Charles III but his daughter-in-law appears to be the one who has taken social media by storm.

A shot of Kate, Princess of Wales, before she entered Westminster Abbey for the King’s coronation, taken by AFP photographer Odd Andersen, has been declared instantly iconic by royal fans.

With a serious expression, Kate appeared as if she was looking directly down the lens.

The pearl and diamond earrings that once belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales were on show, as well as a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece with silver bullion, crystal and silver thread work three-dimensional leaf embroidery.

Princess Charlotte wore a matching headpiece and Alexander McQueen dress.

The Princess of Wales arrived at Westminster Abbey alongside her husband, Prince William, who is first in line to the British throne, and her children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The couple’s oldest child, Prince George, who is second in line to the throne, had a separate role in the ceremony.

Another photo of Prince Louis staring up at his mother, mouth agape, inside the church has drawn attention online.

“Louis is all of us looking at Kate,” one Twitter user captioned the photo.

Royal fans were quick to agree, saying they were in awe.

“Absolute slayage from the Princess of Wales,” wrote one self-described royal watcher. “Surprised to see she’s wearing Diana’s south sea pearl earrings and the floral headpiece exceeded all my expectations.”

“Kate’s proving to me she’s ready for the big tiaras in the future with this look” wrote another fan.

“Gosh. I can only imagine the St Edward Crown is giving Kate massive side eyes and muttering ‘this is supposed to be my day!’” joked another, referencing the crown used to officially crown King Charles.

Underneath her regal robes, Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress – a British designer who also did her wedding dress.

It had embroidery featuring roses for England, thistles for Scotland, daffodils for Wales and shamrocks for Ireland.

She also wore the George VI Festoon Necklace, made in 1950 at the request of King George VI for his daughter Princess Elizabeth.
