Mandy Moore has clapped back at online critics who shamed her for promoting her in-laws’ GoFundMe page after they lost their house in the ongoing LA wildfires.
The singer and actress, whose home was also destroyed in the blaze, revealed in an Instagram post yesterday that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Griff & Kit Goldsmith, lost all their possessions in the fire and needed help to get back on their feet.
The post was not well received by her followers who immediately called out the This Is Us star for not doing enough financially to help own relatives amid their devastation.

“People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” Moore snapped in an Instagram post.
“Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe, and I’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them.
“We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
In her post which featured a screenshot of her in-laws’ GoFundMe page, Moore said that Griff was a touring musician who lost “his entire arsenal of drums/percussion” he uses to earn a living in the fire, and the couple are also expecting their first baby “in a matter of weeks”.
“They need our support now more than ever,” she wrote. “It’s all so much. So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time…Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.”
The GoFundMe was started by Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, and has raised more than the US$175,000 goal, with actor Zachary Levi contributing $10,000.
Just days ago, Moore shared an update on her Altadena home, which she shared with husband Taylor Goldsmith, after it was ravaged by fire.
“Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone,” Moore wrote, adding that she was grappling with “weird survivor’s guilt.”
The star also shared shocking images of the aftermath, which saw her entire home, home studio, garage and back house completely burnt down.
“We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss,” she wrote on Instagram. “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not liveable but mostly intact. We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.”
Moore continued, “Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support. Thanks for everyone for checking on us and offering us help. Altadena strong.”
The tragedy hit an eerie parallel with Moore’s role on This Is Us, where her character’s family loses their home to a fire.
Co-star Milo Ventimiglia also lost his home in the wildfires, calling the situation a surreal case of “life imitating art.”
Despite the criticism, many fans have rallied around Moore, urging empathy and compassion.
One supporter wrote: “If you don’t want to donate, don’t, but please try to lead with empathy.”
The raging wildfires in Los Angeles have wreaked havoc across the city, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Fierce Santa Ana winds, gusting over 112km/h, have fuelled the flames, making it nearly impossible for firefighters to contain the blazes.
Over 180,000 residents have been forced to evacuate, and thousands of structures have been reduced to ash.
At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, though officials fear the number could rise as crews begin to sift through the rubble.
The fires have hit celebrity neighbourhoods particularly hard, with stars like Mel Gibson, Bella Hadid, and Paris Hilton losing their homes.
Others, such as Mark Hamill and Tom Hanks, narrowly escaped devastation, their properties standing amid charred ruins.
The economic toll of the wildfires is staggering, with damage estimates climbing to as much as US$150 billion.
Governor Gavin Newsom has deployed over 1,400 firefighters, with additional teams arriving from neighbouring states, but the battle to contain the flames is far from over.
This year’s wildfires have once again highlighted the vulnerability of even the most affluent areas of Los Angeles to nature’s fury, leaving thousands homeless and entire communities shattered.
The wildfires haven’t spared the homes of the rich and famous with Hollywood A-listers tragically seeing their houses turned to smouldering rubble.
Those who have had their homes burned down include: John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Billy Crystal, Miles Teller, Eugene Levy, Anna Faris, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, and James Woods.
