Lily Allen has revealed she fell out with her best friend after deliberately sleeping with her celebrity crush at a festival.

The UK singer, 39, dropped the bombshell on the latest episode of her podcast Miss Me, which she co-hosts with TV presenter Miquita Oliver.

The pair remembered how, in the early 2000s, 40-year-old Oliver interviewed a big pop star, whom she later found out “fancied” her.

“Careful who you tell things to — I told Lily that I liked him and she was like, ‘Well actually I like him,’ and I was like, ‘Well it doesn’t matter because he actually likes me’,” Oliver recalled.

Allen, who at the time wasn’t famous and worked in artist relations, admitted to sleeping with the unnamed artist at a festival he was playing at in Japan shortly after that exchange.

While Allen and Oliver are close now, the pair didn’t speak for months after it happened.

“She called me the next day, and she said, ‘I need to tell you, I slept with [name redacted].’ I have never been that angry at you in my entire life,” Oliver said.

“I hung up the phone, and we did not speak for about six months.”

Allen did apologise to Oliver for causing her “pain”, but ultimately conceded famous people were “fair game”.

“I fancied him, so I was getting mine,” Allen said.

“And also, I didn’t know that he fancied you … By the way, I think pop stars are fair game, like, I don’t care.

“I actually thought you’d just be happy for me,” Allen added with a laugh.

Oliver then speculated Allen continued talking to the pop star, with Allen confessing she did, but he turned out to be “horrible” to her.

However, Allen said she got the last laugh. Years later, she played the same festival with him in Australia, where she was “higher up the bill”.

“When I met him and had that dalliance, I was not a successful recording artist,” Allen said.

“I was … Not infatuated with him, but there was a bit of dialogue when we got back to England [after Japan] and then he sort of dropped off the face of the earth. Fine. But my feelings were hurt. I was young and impressionable.

“And a few years later I went to play at a festival in Australia and he was supporting me, I was higher up the bill, and he did not like that very much. It felt pretty good.”

Allen has played at numerous Aussie festivals over the years, including Big Day Out in 2012 and Splendour in the Grass in 2014.

The star, who shot to fame in 2006 with the release of her debut single Smile, is now married to US actor David Harbour, whom she wed in 2020.
