Casey Treloar revealed as Channel 7 Adelaide’s new weather presenter while Amelia Mulcahy goes on maternity leave

A chance meeting with Amelia Mulcahy at the Royal Adelaide Show has helped a rising star secure a plum role as Channel 7’s new weekday weather presenter.

Presenting the weather on television was never on Casey Treloar’s radar.

But five years after bumping into Channel 7’s Amelia Mulcahy at the Royal Adelaide Show, Treloar will take over from the popular presenter, who’s going on maternity leave next week.

And her first gig? Hosting the all-important weekday segment on location at the Show, which kicks off on September 2.

“It feels like I’ve come full circle,” said Treloar, 30.

“Back then, if you’d asked me whether I’d fill in for Amelia, I’d never have predicted it.”

From a dairy farming family, Treloar was handling cows at the 2018 event when she first met Mulcahy. The longtime weather guru helped organise work experience at 7NEWS for Treloar, who was also employed as a video journalist in Port Lincoln.

Six months later, Treloar was offered a job at the station, and that’s where she’s worked since, reporting, producing and presenting.

“It’s funny how things work out. The irony is pretty unique,” said Treloar, who’s originally from the Fleurieu Peninsula.

“My country background helps a little bit with the role. I’ve come to appreciate the challenges of weather and the importance it plays when it comes to putting food on the table.

“It’s very big shoes to fill but I’m very happy with where I’ve landed.”

Mulcahy said Treloar’s passion for agriculture will add plenty to 7NEWS’s coverage.

“She’s a farm girl through and through and knows just how important the forecast is, and I know she’s not afraid to work hard. I’ve seen her getting her hands dirty caring for her cows,” said Mulcahy, who’s expecting her second child with husband Matt in October.

7NEWS Adelaide news director Chris Salter said Treloar was the perfect replacement for Mulcahy.

“Casey knows as well as anyone how important an accurate weather forecast is to people’s lives, and in many cases livelihoods,” he said.

“She won’t just tell you the temperature, she’ll explain what it all means.”
