Isabella Cavallaro is undaunted at the prospect of walking the red carpet at her first Brownlow Medal.
Ms Cavallaro, 20, will be on the arm of her partner, Power superstar Jason Horne-Francis, for the glamorous event in Melbourne on Monday night.
“I think it’s exciting. I’ve been to a few of these type of events before, so I’m feeling pretty good about it,” she said.
“When I was little I used to watch the Brownlow a bit. There’s some pressure but it’s all right. I enjoy getting dressed up.”
Ms Cavallaro, who has been dating Port’s young gun for two-and-a-half years, is planning to wear a blue dress with lace from Mawson Lakes bridal boutique Eliza French.
She’s also received some sage advice from Kellie Finlayson, who attended last year’s black-tie event with her husband, Power forward Jeremy.
“Kellie has been great, she’s helped me out. She’s recommended a few hair stylists and make-up artists,” said Ms Cavallaro.
“I’ve heard it’s a really good night and it’ll be good to get around the boys after they’ve had such a good year.”
Ms Cavallaro and Horne-Francis met through mutual friends in Melbourne in 2022 during his debut AFL season with the Kangaroos.
The no. 1 draft pick knew Ms Cavallaro’s brother Michael, a former player with Norwood in the SANFL, and the rest is history.
“It’s pretty exciting going to watch him at all his games and stuff,” she said.
Ms Cavallaro admitted some of the negative commentary around her high-profile beau can frustrate her, but it’s all water off a duck’s back for Horne-Francis.
“Sitting in the crowd, it does my head in a little bit. I get a bit more angry than he does,” said Ms Cavallaro, who works in the beauty industry.
“But it doesn’t bother him at all. He does not care at all about any of it, which is a good thing.”
The happy couple are now planning a three-week European holiday which will includes stops in Italy and Greece.
“I’m really looking forward it, it should be fun,” Ms Cavallaro said.
Styled with a little help from my friends
Organising an outfit for football’s night of nights can cause some anxiety, so it helps when you’re good friends with one of Adelaide’s top fashion designers.
Milly Dawson, wife of Crows captain Jordan, has once again turned to GretaKate founder Greta Rumsby for her Brownlow Medal gown.
It comes less that a year after Rumsby created Ms Dawson’s dream wedding dress for her nuptials last January.
“We’re very lucky. We have a great relationship with Greta – this is the fifth dress she’s made for me – so getting a dress sorted is a big tick,” said Ms Dawson, who will wear Class A Jewellery to the black-tie event.
“We’ve gone with black this year. We’re going for a little bit of a different vibe which is exciting.”
Rumsby’s husband Dino Leopardi will also ensure the Crows’ skipper is looking dapper, with a special suit from Calibre Clothing.
This year will be the third time the couple have walked the red carpet at the Brownlow Medal, and Ms Dawson said it gets easier every time.
“The first year was incredibly daunting. I suppose going now I’m a little bit more comfortable about, though there will always be a level of anxiety for me,” she said.
“But it’s a really fun night and it’s good knowing you’re going with a group of people from the Crows and we can all hang out. It’s going to be really enjoyable.”
