British actor Tim Roth has joined the cast of John Ibrahim TV drama Last King of the Cross after Deadwood star Ian McShane was forced to pull out of the production.
McShane, 79, was to play the lead antagonist, Ezra Shipman in the 10-part series that is based on Ibrahim’s book of the same name and will detail his life as a nightclub mogul in Sydney’s Kings Cross.
Roth, 61, has stepped in to play Shipman after fellow Brit McShane cited health reasons for not being able to come to Australia.
“It’s unfortunate that Ian is unable to join us and we wish him a speedy recovery,” producer Mark Fennessy said.
“We are truly delighted that the super brilliant Tim Roth joins our cast as Ezra, and cannot wait to see him breathe life into yet another unforgettable character.”
Lincoln Younes meanwhile will play the lead of Ibrahim while the cast also includes Callan Mulvey, Tess Haubrich, Matt Nable and Damian Walshe-Howling.
Roth meanwhile has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood and was nominated for an Academy Award for 1995 film, Rob Roy.
