In a shock move Channel 10 has dumped one of its most popular shows amid low ratings and legal dramas. The reality television drama will be sidelined in 2021 but could return at a later date.

Channel 10 has scrapped its Bachelor spin-off show Bachelor in Paradise after the latest season premiered to its lowest ratings yet.

A Network 10 spokeswoman told Confidential the show has been axed from its 2021 schedule after three seasons.

“We love all the excitement, drama and of course love that Bachelor In Paradise brings, but we have decided to rest it in 2021,” a spokeswoman said.

It’s understood that the show, which unites Bachelor and Bachelorette rejects in Fiji, could still be revived at a later date.

It comes after the Osher Gunsberg-led show premiered to it’s lowest ratings in July, with 507,000 metro viewers tuning in, compared to 750,000 in season one.

Ratings have significantly declined over the years, with contestants often accused of using the show as a launching pad to influencer careers.

Since launching in 2018, just two out of nine couples have remained together (both from the latest season), however most have gone on to launch lucrative influencer careers.

Celebrity talent agent Max Markson, who represents several contestants including Timm Hanly and Ciarran Stott, previously told Confidential that the show has been a great platform for his clients who charge upwards of $4000 to $5000 for a single Instagram post.

“This COVID-19 period has been extraordinary because people aren’t going out as much so the online retailers are selling more products, companies not just here in Australia but all over the world are reaching out to my clients wanting them to help sell products,” he said.

The latest season was not without controversy after contestant Jamie Doran filed a legal claim against production company Warner Bros. International.

The Sydney Firefighter announced his plans to sue Network 10 and Warner Bros in July and said his grievances go beyond getting a “bad edit” on the show.

Confidential previously revealed that Doran has been banned from talking to the media until November 9 after revealing his plans to sue.

While Bachelor in Paradise won’t be back next year, both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette will return despite low ratings.

Locky Gilbert’s season had 681,000 metro viewers in August — marking the second-lowest premiere ahead of Tim Robards’ season (669,000).

Meanwhile, The Bachelorette was even more disappointing with 628,000 metro viewers tuning in to watch sisters Elly and Becky Miles attempt to find love.
