THE 88th Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is honouring the best films of 2015 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Monday (AEST).
Chris Rock will host the event, which has been hit by a potential boycott over the fact that the nominee lists contain only white skinned people.
Jada Pinkett-Smith went viral with a video calling for black people to boycott the Oscars. Film director Spike Lee, who won an honorary Oscar in November, agreed and said he would not attend Monday’s event. Pinkett-Smith and husband Will Smith have said they will not attend.

The Revenant, which has 12 nominations, is the favourite to win Best Picture, with its lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio heavily tipped to take the Best Actor gong and Brie Larson the hot favourite for Best Actress for her performance in The Room, according to sportsbet.com.au. Mad Max: Fury Road cannot be discounted with 10 nominations.
