Paul Giamatti celebrated for grabbing an In-N-Out burger after ‘Holdovers’ Golden Globe win

Most stars hit the glitzy afterparties as guests of honour after a huge awards show win – but Paul Giamatti had very different plans.

There were plenty of glitzy afterparties for this year’s Golden Globes winners to attend and bask in glory – but Paul Giamatti had very different priorities.

A picture of the actor, who won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role as a grumpy professor in The Holdovers, has surfaced online, showing him digging in to a burger at popular LA fast-food chain, In-N-Out.

Giamatti, 56, can be seen checking his phone while his gold trophy sits conspicuously beside him, surrounded by cups and trays.

“This is the most Paul Giamatti thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote film critic Zoe Rose Bryant, while filmmaker and podcaster Sergio Muñoz Esquer captioned it simply: “My king.”

Giamatti isn’t the first celebrity to be spotted making a beeline for the nearest fast-food outlet, post-awards show.

Hilary Swank was pictured biting into an Astro Burger following her Best Actress win at the Academy Awards in 2005, while Reese Witherspoon and Nick Kroll shared a post-Oscars selfie while indulging in an In-N-Out meal in 2017.

During yesterday’s Globes ceremony, Giamatti beat out Jeffrey Wright, Joaquin Phoenix, Matt Damon, Nicolas Cage and Timothée Chalamet to land the win, which he dedicated to his “whole family of teachers”.

“It’s a movie about a teacher, I play a teacher and I come from a whole family of teachers and teachers are good people and you gotta respect them, this is for teachers as well,” he told the audience.

It was a big night for The Holdovers, with Giamatti’s co-star, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, also taking home a Golden Globes statue for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
