More tickets have been released for AFL’s Gather Round as it’s revealed Aussie indie rockers The Temper Trap will entertain crowds at next month’s Norwood Food and Wine Festival, which has returned as part of the four-day footy feast.

All nine matches were previously sold out, but AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon announced on Monday that over 1000 tickets have now become available and will go on sale to the public on Thursday at 1pm Adelaide time. They will be available through Ticketek.

Mr Dillon said the extra Gather Round tickets have become available after corporates and members recently returned some passes.

Adelaide Oval will be the centrepiece for the event, which will feature all 18 clubs playing in South Australia from April 4-7. Norwood Oval and Hills town Mount Barker will also host two matches.

To coincide with the sold-out Richmond v St Kilda clash, which will be held at Norwood Oval on April 7 at 2.50pm, The Temper Trap will perform at the revived Norwood Food and Wine Festival.

The award-winning four-piece will joined by local acts including Dusty Lee Band and Motel Music for the free event, which will take over much of the Parade from Portrush Road to Osmond Terrace.

The Norwood Food and Wine Festival ran for almost 20 years before it was axed in 2012, after concerns from traders about public drunkenness, road closures and crowd control affecting business.

Traders along the Parade including arkhé, The Bath Hotel, 30 Acres, Norwood Hotel, and Danny’s Thai Bistro, will show off their wares during the event, while Gather Round games will be broadcast on big screens and inside venues.

Leading Adelaide chef and former MasterChef star Callum Hann will also present a Tasting Australia cooking demonstration.

Premier Peter Malinauskas said resurrecting the event during SA’s Festival of Footy will highlight the state’s food, wine and produce and provide an economic boost for the local community.

“South Australians will well remember the Norwood Food & Wine Festival. Now, in the context of Gather Round, it becomes a prime opportunity to showcase our state’s amazing food and wine to the rest of the country, amid music and roving entertainment,” he said.

Last year’s inaugural AFL Gather Round contributed more than $83 million to the state’s economy, with 260,000 fans attending and more than 40,000 visitors from interstate.

Adelaide and Melbourne will kick-off this year’s Gather Round with a sellout match at the Oval on Thursday, April 4.

The city stadium will be the centrepiece for the event, which will feature all 18 clubs playing in South Australia from April 4-7. Hills town Mount Barker will also host two matches.
