Hold on to your schnitzels South Australia, because Guns N’ Roses have announced the support acts for their November 29 show at Adelaide Oval.
The kings of Australian pub punk – Cosmic Pyschos – will be joined by a band that has in many ways picked up their baton, The Chats, ensuring that there will be a huge dose of irreverent humour at what is promising to be the gig of the year.
Cosmic Psychos, formed in the early eighties by bass player, farmer and champion powerlifter Ross Knight, are probably best known for their Australiana punk classic Nice Day To Go To The Pub with lyrics like “Nice day to have a schnitzel, have a schnitzel, have a schnitzel, nice day to have some chips, have some chips, have some chips”.
It’s creative wellspring also explored by The Chats on songs like Pub Feed, which also extols the virtues of a chicken schnitty and a bowl of chips with sauce. The bands second LP is due out next month, creatively titled Get F … ed.
And while there’s an undercurrent of Aussie humour in both bands, there’s no denying their impact with the Psychos regularly quoted as being a huge influence on the grunge scene that spawned Nirvana and L7 and The Chats selling our shows across the country and in the UK and Europe.
TEG DAINTY President and CEO Paul Dainty said, “Many fans who witnessed the classic Guns N’ Roses line-up of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan, reunited, on Australian stages during this historic band’s previous Not In This Lifetime tour in 2017 are still raving about it to this day and the reviews were unanimously glowing.
“With the addition of two of our country’s finest exports, The Chats and Cosmic Psychos, announced as special guests, Australian audiences are in for an explosive night of rock – you certainly don’t want to miss out this time around. Guns N’ Roses are living legends. They never disappoint.”
