MY TEEN IDOL/CRUSH
Natasha Stott Despoja (below). Sure the meme at the time was ‘Doc Martins In Parliament’ but when you looked around the big house in Canberra at the time, no one painted a more hopeful future for young people. Also her party’s slogan was “keep the bastards honest” and as a kid I loved swearing. As an adult I f--king love it.
CHARACTER I’D LIKE TO BE FOR A DAY
I’d love to play one of the most divisive men of science fiction: Mark Latham. Imagine the super power of saying the most insane, racist rants on television without any ramifications, because everyone assumes you have an illness.
CHARACTER I’D LIKE KILLED OFF
A character I think should be killed off is Bart Simpson – the kid has been in the 5th grade for 30 years. He’s due for a heart attack.
FAVOURITE CARTOON AS A KID
When I was a kid I loved Inspector Gadget. I had a crush on Penny, she knew computers, and had a cool dog. At the time, I didn’t think that it was a little weird that a middle-aged man with a trench coat of toys hangs around young girls.
GAME SHOW/REALITY SHOW I WISH I’D GONE ON
Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush. At the time it was all lights, colour, pranks, and silliness. Something 8-year-old me could get on board with.
BEST AUSTRALIAN TV SHOW
There’s no better sitcom than Sky News After Dark. So many crazy characters in one room.
TV SHOW I CAN’T STAND
A TV show I can’t stand is Foxtel’s Game of Thrones, starring Emilia Clarke (below). It’s just too long. No one has time for that. I watched the first season. And ever since I’ve just watched the first episode and last episode of every other season. That way I can get all the catch-ups at speed, and know enough to make references at the pub, or at least nod along knowingly.
FAVOURITE TV SHOW I’D NEVER ADMIT TO
It’s very unfashionable to like Australia’s Funniest Home Videos. And it’s such a shame that it’s no longer on. But thankfully Kookslams and Brown Cardigan keep me abreast of all the latest best groin hits.
TV SHOW THEY SHOULD MAKE A MOVIE OUT OF
Senate Estimates Hearing. This summer, one Senator, goes on journey few would dare and gives a lengthy explanation about franking credits.
