With more than 1.5 million followers on TikTok, Jenna Hudson is usually at ease in front of a camera.
But the social media sensation admits there were a few nerves as she prepared to sing for The Voice coaches Guy Sebastian, LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert and Kate Miller-Heidke on Seven’s talent show.
“It was the most nervous I’ve been in my entire life,” said Adelaide-raised Hudson about her blind audition, which airs on Wednesday.
“I had a few small tears before I went on... just the anticipation leading up to it, knowing how much was riding on it. But I composed myself and I love being on stage, so once I got up there, I was okay.”
Now based in Sydney, the full-time content creator said she was “roped in” to perform after supporting her partner, Yorke Heath, at his initial Voice audition. A producer for the reality show recognised her and encouraged her to “give it a go”, and now the couple are both set to take centre stage.
“They loved us both. We’re on there as separate contestants, which is very exciting.
It’s been the craziest, good experience of my life,” said Hudson, better known online as Jenna With The Pink.
“A lot of my fans don’t know I can sing but it’s something I’ve done ever since I was little.
“And working in TV and on reality TV has always been what I’ve wanted to do. To get to do it on a slightly bigger screen has been absolutely amazing.”
Hudson, 27, will perform a ballad version of Complicated by Avril Lavigne as she hopes to make the most of her starring role on The Voice.
“Getting the opportunity to showcase my singing has been incredible. It’s a path I’ve always wanted to go down but TikTok took off so quickly, I got swept up in that,” she said.
“But I love singing just as much as all that. I’ve found my calling.”
The former model was a Miss Universe finalist and won the curve section of Australian Supermodel of the Year in 2017. But debilitating issues with body dysmorphia and eating disorders derailed that career.
After quitting a nursing degree at university, Hudson joined TikTok during the pandemic and the rest is social media history.
“I make so much better money than if I went to university and studied something. It’s to the point where I employ my boyfriend Yorke, he’s my manager,” said Hudson, who has sponsorship deals with big brands including Coca-Cola, Fanta, Netflix and Twisties.
The Kick Start For Kids against period poverty ambassador uses her platform to talk about positive self image and ending the period taboo, and has vowed to continue that as her musical star rises.
“I’d love to release music that... have positive messages for my fans. I’d love to continue that with my music,” she said.
“I don’t want to let my fans down. So many of them look up to me, I’m their idol, and I want to show them that they can do it as well.”
