SA police officer Geistare Bubenaite will show courage of a different kind on the new season of Australian Idol.
The 23-year-old singer and serving member of SAPOL will attempt to win over judges Marcia Hines, Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands when Seven’s rebooted reality show returns on Sunday.
Ms Bubenaite, of Para Hills West, said her “eye-opening” line work helps with her music – and vice versa.
“I absolutely love it,” said the singer and rapper.
“It’s very different to music, that’s for sure... but both require a lot of bravery, confidence and courage.
“I’ve definitely gained plenty of confidence from being a police officer and when I have tough days at work, I’ll turn to my music as a form of therapy, just letting things out and writing about how I feel.”
Just 19 when she joined the force, Ms Bubenaite said she’s seen it all during her four years with SAPOL.
“It’s quite eye-opening. In one day you can see a death, domestic violence, there’s stabbings, people getting injured, you see neglect, kids getting taken away from their families... but you’re always helping people and that’s why I do what I do. It’s very rewarding,” she said.
Born in Ireland with a Lithuanian background, Ms Bubenaite moved to Australia with her family when she was aged seven.
Previously an Irish dancer, she competed at state and world championships but music has always been her first love.
“Singing and music is my ultimate dream so if I can make it a full-time thing, that’s the goal,” said Ms Bubenaite.
“No matter what happens (with Idol), I’ll still keep going with it because it’s such a big passion of mine.”
