POPULAR local flamenco troupe Flamenqueando Productions, directed by Rosalie Cocchiaro, has made quite the impact since its formation a couple of years ago, breathing new life into traditional flamenco with a distinctly contemporary take.

Their 2017 Fringe show A Cuatro is no exception, with superb flamenco singer Naika Ponce leading the charge with an unusual repertoire of traditional and contemporary song.

Aided by outstanding flamenco guitarist Damian Wright and percussionist James Hauptmann (whose mastery of flamenco rhythm and — just as important — idiom, is deeply impressive).

Cocchiaro and her dancers stomp up a storm on a stage that’s not exactly made for flamenco, but has a stunning resonance all the same.

A packed house of local fans loved every minute of it.
