Cabaret superstar Hans is making his grand return to the Adelaide Fringe stage, 18 months after he fell while performing on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean.
The Boy Wonder from Berlin, aka Adelaide’s own Matt Gilbertson, took a year off from the festival but is now back with his new show, Hans: Disco Spektakulär.
It kicked off at Gluttony on Tuesday night and runs until March 10.
“There is such a brilliant atmosphere in the air surrounding Fringe this year and it’s so wonderful to be back at Gluttony surrounded by audiences getting out there and enjoying themselves,” said Hans.
“After travelling this show around Australia to different towns and festivals, I can honestly say there is absolutely nothing like the Adelaide Fringe which takes over the city for a whole month.”
The beloved SA entertainer said it’s unlikely he’ll ever be 100 per cent healthy again after his accident in August 2022, in which he shattered bones in his right foot and fractured five vertebrae, among other injuries.
But as always, the show must – and will – go on for the America’s Got Talent favourite, who made his Fringe debut 20 years ago.
“I’ll always have ongoing problems … but I have the meds ready for before the show and the ice ready for after the show,” he said.
“It’s all part of the glamour of showbiz!”
