THE 2018 Adelaide Fringe has been launched at the old RAH where negotiations are still in train to widen the site’s roles in the 2018 Fringe, including artist accommodation.

The Fringe will host the Hybrid World international portal venue there and is planning a ticket outlet in the hospital buildings but expects to add more events and accommodation.

Fringe director Heather Croall said Renewal SA, in charge of the site, was still investigating the accommodation proposal, but she was expecting that it would go ahead.

“It could be for artists, or it might be for artists and audiences,” she said.

“They are very close I think. They are still going through the final details.”

Her comments were echoed by Premier Jay Weatherill, who launched the Fringe.

“We are working on an idea to use some of the buildings for accommodation, which might provide a low cost option for some of the artists,” he said.

He said he wanted to see all the hospital buildings used as much as possible to play a role in the Fringe Festival.

“It is an exciting opportunity to take the bones of this old building and use it in exciting ways to add value to the Fringe,” he said.

They were ideas for the Fringe to help revitalise the area such as using some of the spaces for pop-up acts.
